Cracking the myths
Did you know that chiropractic care has been helping people move, heal, and feel better for over 125 years?
From its fascinating beginnings to its modern science-backed approach, chiropractic has an incredible story, and it’s still changing lives today!
A Brief History of the “Back Crack”

Chiropractic care began in 1895, when a man named Daniel David Palmer performed the first chiropractic adjustment in Davenport, Iowa. The patient, a janitor named Harvey Lillard, had lost his hearing after a back injury. After Palmer’s spinal adjustment, Lillard reportedthat his hearing had improved, and a whole new branch of healthcare was born!
The word “chiropractic” comes from the Greek words “cheir”(hand) and “praktikos” (done by hand)* literally meaning “done by hand.”Today, chiropractors are highly trained healthcare professionals who study for years to understand the body’s structure, nervous system, and natural ability to heal itself.
What Chiropractic Care Can Help With
While most people think chiropractors only help with back pain, there’s so much more to it. Chiropractic adjustments can help with:
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Headaches and migraines
- Sciatica and nerve irritation
- Joint pain and posture problems
- Sports injuries and muscle tension
- Even improving sleep, focus, and energy levels… because when your nervous system is working properly, everything works better!
By realigning the spine and restoring proper communication between the brain and body, chiropractic care helps your body function at its best.
Fun Facts You Might Not Know!
There are over 100 different chiropractic techniques used worldwide, from gentle instrument adjustments to hands-on care.
Chiropractic is the third largest healthcare profession in the world, after medicine and dentistry.
Babies, children, athletes, and older adults can all safely benefit from chiropractic care.
NASA has even studied spinal alignment in astronauts to better understand the effects of space travel!
Many top athletes, including Usain Bolt and Tom Brady, have chiropractic care to boost performance and prevent injury.
At its heart, chiropractic care is about helping the body help itself. Instead of masking symptoms, it looks for the root cause, allowing your body to heal and function the way it was designed to.
Whether you’re dealing with pain, stiffness, or simply want to move and feel your best, chiropractic care might just be the missing piece in your wellness journey.
