Looking after your body for the years ahead. Menopause, bone Density and chiropractic care

Looking after your body for the years ahead. Menopause, bone density and chiropractic care

Menopause brings plenty of changes and while hot flushes and mood swings often get the most attention, there's another important change happening behind the scenes that many women don't think about until much later: bone health.

The good news? There are lots of things you can do to support your body during and after menopause and keeping your spine and joints healthy is one of them.

What happens to our bones during menopause?

As we go through menopause, our oestrogen levels naturally decline. Oestrogen plays an important role in maintaining bone strength, so when levels drop, our bones can lose density more quickly.

This means women become more at risk of developing osteoporosis, a condition where bones become weaker and more likely to fracture.

It's a natural part of ageing, but that doesn't mean there's nothing you can do about it.

Signs your body might be changing

Bone loss itself doesn't usually cause symptoms, but many women notice changes that can affect how they feel every day, such as:

  • More stiffness, especially first thing in the morning
  • Back or neck discomfort
  • Aches after activities that never used to bother them
  • Changes in posture
  • Feeling less flexible or mobile

While these symptoms aren't always linked directly to bone density, they're often a reminder that our bodies need a little more care during this stage of life.

Helping with everyday aches and pains

Many women experience increased back, neck or joint discomfort during menopause. Chiropractic care can help manage mechanical aches and pains, helping you move with greater comfort and confidence. While chiropractic care can't increase bone density, it can play an important role in helping you stay active, mobile and comfortable throughout menopause.

Encouraging an active lifestyle

One of the best things you can do for your bones is to keep moving.

Weight-bearing exercise and strength training, such as BioDensity Therapy are known to support bone health, and when your body feels good, it's much easier to stay active.

Alongside your care, our chiropractors can provide advice on posture, movement and exercises that suit your lifestyle and goals.

Looking after your bones for the future

Supporting bone health isn't about one big change, it’s about small habits that add up over time.

Here are a few simple ways to give your bones the support they deserve:

  • Eat a balanced diet rich in calcium.
  • Make sure you're getting enough vitamin D, through safe sunlight exposure or supplements
  • Include weight-bearing and strength exercises in your weekly routine.
  • Avoid smoking and limit excessive alcohol.
  • Keep active every day, even regular walks make a difference.
  • Speak to our expert team if you have concerns about osteoporosis or a family history of the condition.

It's never too early… or too late to invest in your health

Menopause is a new chapter, not the end of feeling strong, active and confident. Looking after your bones, muscles and joints now can help you continue enjoying the activities you love for many years to come. We're here to support you through every stage of life.

If menopause has left you feeling stiffer, less mobile or more aware of everyday aches and pains, why not book a consultation?

Together, we'll help you keep moving with confidence, today and for the future.

Best wishes,
